NEWS YOU CAN USE SURVEY SAYS Twenty-five percent of executives at high-technology companies are ineffective managers, according to a 12-year study conducted by Hagberg Consulting Group, a leadership development firm based in New York.

These "executives in trouble" are rewarded for their technical competence by being promoted up the ladder, but they lack the people skills to inspire and develop a cohesive team, says Hagberg.

    SKILLS BASED MANAGEMENT Our parent company Leemak, Inc. specializes in helping other companies with systems for continuous improvement. We felt it only right to practice what we teach. So we have been making some changes and improvements to Western Learning Systems. The Management Skills Assessment is one example, as is the way we have re-grouped our workshop offerings.

    We believe that there is a core set of skills managers must master to be successful in today's work environment. The headings define each group of skills and the workshops provide the opportunity to learn and practice various aspects of them.
